Fox Glacier Holiday Park & Motels Win Again!

At the recent Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand (HAPNZ) national conference the Fox Glacier Holiday Park & Motels was the recipient of the ‘Jasons Smart Business Award’

The park is owned by Greymouth couple Doug and Rhonda Levien and this is the second year running they have won a major award. This was again for the parks innovative approach to providing their guests with local activities, aptly named ‘OUTFOXING’  Last year the park won an innovation award for OUTFOXING.

They have created a  series of nature based guidebooks and display panels designed to connect guests with the environment and short walks in the Fox Glacier area. ‘Be your own guide’ is the key message and the guidebooks enable guests at the park to enjoy in-depth environmental interpretations at their own leisure, for a fair price with them in the guiding role.

Mary Ansell, General Manager – Operations for  Jasons Travel Media had the very positive comment "I was so impressed with your compelling offer, your Outfoxing booklets and the entry presentation that I took them home to show my husband and we are definitely keen to make the trip to Fox Glacier to stay at the park and experience these walks."

The Park has dedicated itself to ensuring that guests get the maximum experience out of the local walks and have been working with DOC, botanists and marketing consultants to produce the series of OUTFOXING guidebooks. A great example is The Lake Matheson walkway which is world famous for its mirrored reflections of Mt’s Tasman and Cook. Three separate guidebooks have been developed for this track detailing the ‘Rainforest Giants’, ‘Small Forest Plants’ and ‘5 Interesting Places’ on the walkway.

The Levien’s are excited by receiving another award at a national level. Rhonda comments “This Jasons Smart Business Award is an acknowledgement of the hard work our team has put in at the park, we’re over the moon about it!”

Over the last 3 years the park has been undergoing an ‘extreme makeover’ including a complete rebuild of the reception and facilities block, new powered sites have been created and a wonderful adventure playground has been built for the kids. Extensive landscaping is still being undertaken and Park Manager Linda Pine says there are plenty more developments in the pipeline. ‘We have spent a lot of time and energy to create a Holiday Park experience that gives our guests a genuine sense of comfort, our staff are relaxed and friendly and the atmosphere we are looking to achieve is just about having fun and being comfortable. We’ve still got a lot more to do!”

OUTFOXING Guidebooks are available exclusively from the Fox Glacier Holiday Park & Motels and cost $4 each, 3 for $10 or 5 for $16.
