How many times in your life will you be on an unspoiled wilderness coastline, watching the sun set into the ocean as it casts its last rays onto snow covered mountains?
Gillespies Beach is a treasure trove of interesting driftwoods and beach stones, framed by the wild Tasman Sea on one side, and virgin rainforests on the other.
The West Coast is famous for its wilderness beaches, and Gillespies Beach is the best of these.
Because it is the closest beach to New Zealand’s highest mountains (Mt. Cook/Aorangi and Mt. Tasman) there are spectacular views of the Southern Alps from the beach.
At the south end of the beach is a lovely lagoon, and a bridge that leads on to an old gold miners’ tunnel and a seal colony.
Drive time from Fox Glacier Holiday Park to Gillespies Beach is about 30 minutes.
